ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with development issues and processes geographically linked with the county of Varmland in the western part of Sweden. The aim of the project, entitled ‘Music in Varmland’, is twofold, to develop the musical life of the county and to acquire new general knowledge in the field of musicological research. The project leader selected Varmland County Council, and in particularly its department of cultural affairs, as the functionally administrative base for the project. The research philosophy and the planned research organisation may be said to be in line with the conditions which are adjudged to be positive and ‘normal’ for a successful development project in accordance with the fundamentals in the figure. The project also had an overarching goal of using the study of Varmland to develop a general model for conducting regional studies in the field of music.
