The difficulties of decision making on complex problems, especially when the negative consequences of a faulty decision would weigh so heavily on mans future, were highlighted by Daniel Kahneman, professor of psychology at the Hebrew University, Pointing out the dangers to society in man's cognitive limitations, Kahneman called for a new technical discipline that he labeled "human engineering of decisions which would employ technology in such a way as to enhance human intuition.
