ABSTRACT

Robert O. Becker believes that low-level electrical currents and potentials, produced either by direct injection or by rectification and induction from a field, have the capability of bringing about very major biological effects of a very basic nature. A stumbling block in the acceptance of ‘athermal’ effects has been the lack of complete understanding of the mechanisms of interaction between electric and magnetic fields and biological systems. Non-thermal electrical pollution is most severe when waves modulated by frequencies which coincide with biological frequencies are used. In fact, the probability of ‘athermal’ therapeutic effects is enhanced by a number of physiological phenomena which are induced by electromagnetic fields. Magnetocardiographs are obtained by sensing the magnetic fields generated by currents which flow during the depolarisation and repolarisation processes. Electroencephalograms are widely used by neurologists, in particular, to diagnose various physiological disorders of the brain as well as various psychological states of the mind.
