ABSTRACT

The reader will not fail to have seen that much of the information work with unpublished reports in large information centres does not differ in kind from work with other materials in other information departments, however much it may differ in detail. Some aspects of the work are indeed different in kind, but it is quite impossible to separate those which are exclusively concerned with the stated subject of the monograph from those which are equally relevant to other kinds of information and library work; this is true of almost all specialized subjects and also of specialized points of view: a monograph which kept strictly within the bounds of its subject could not be used without constant reference to other works.
