ABSTRACT

The Agreed Syllabuses are agreed that Christian education, though more than Bible-knowledge, is to be conducted by means of Bible-knowledge. Granted that the consummation of religious education active commitment to the Christian community is it not possible that they have learnt something from it all. Using the historical background as a canvas, it will be possible in the later part of the course to trace in outline the development of the religious ideas through the Old Testament up to their culmination in the life and teaching of Jesus Christ.’ Beliefs about Jesus and God’s purpose in suffering were almost entirely Christian, heavily biassed towards the orthodox. The gloom concerns school assembly, that collective act of corporate worship compulsory on all schools and all pupils except those removed at the request of parents.
