ABSTRACT
The postscript emphasises the book’s use of psychoanalytic theory to analyse the artist’s process, not the personal motivations of individual artists. The book presents the artist’s creative process in terms of an interplay between inner and outer worlds, and argues that the artwork both provides a form for a previously unformed inner experience and presents some aspect of the outside world in a new way. The Postscript opens up the possibility of further research by questioning whether the findings discussed in relation to visual artists might also be applicable to creative persons working with other artforms such as creative writing or music.
