ABSTRACT

A look into men and women’s equality in terms of participation in physical activities and sports both in Turkey and abroad shows that in each country of the world, men are more active and perform sports at higher ratios. There is a right-based concept in the world for the development of policies on sports and physical activities. When the participation ratio of Turkish women in sports is examined, we unfortunately see that a sufficient level is not reached on this subject, although progress has been made compared to the past. This chapter of the book will examine the historical participation processes of Turkish women in sports, their participation ratios in such activities, their reasons for participation and their preference for sports type and their role in sports management as well as their differences from men on this subject and social roles in folk dances.
