ABSTRACT

Empowerment of individuals is important for the economic system in the context of qualified human capital and for social systems in the context of self-confidence. Women’s empowerment entails taking initiative, being active against the issues while trying to maintain self-sufficiency. If women’s empowerment occurs and women change from their traditional roles in paternalistic society, the attitude of women and the behaviour of society will change as well. The change in attitude is very important especially for regional development policies based on a creative economy approach. Regions need to increase their tolerant attitudes because the creative class, the human capital of creative industries, prefers to live in high tolerance regions. The aim of the chapter is to find out if there is a relationship between women’s empowerment and the creativity of a region in Turkey by using econometric methods. Consequently, the empirical analysis shows that there is a positive relationship between women’s empowerment and regional creativity in Turkey. If there is development of women’s empowerment in Turkey, it will accelerate regional development.
