ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the premise of the book, focusing first on the divorce between film and translation/media accessibility, its historical background and the stark contrast between the cost of foreign and accessible versions and the revenue they produce. The focus is then placed on the damage caused by this divorce, illustrated by the so-called maker–expert–user gap, and on accessible filmmaking as a potential solution.
