ABSTRACT

School readiness is of great interest to a range of stakeholders, including parents, teachers, and policymakers. Different conceptual frameworks of school readiness lead to an emphasis on different factors that support school readiness. Further, research has investigated a number of constructs that are related to school readiness and later school success, including early academic skills, approaches to learning, and engagement. The purpose of this chapter is to provide an overview of the literature supporting the relation between several key early learning domains and school performance that provides guidance for developing a systems approach to school readiness assessment that supports learning for all children.
