ABSTRACT
The present chapter explores characteristics of preschool children’s adaptive behavior, which includes skills needed to take care of themselves and get along with others. Procedures for assessing adaptive behavior within multi-dimensional preschool services are recommended in the chapter, and major standardized adaptive behavior rating scales and supplemental assessment techniques are described. Uses of adaptive behavior assessment for diagnosis and classification and for planning effective intervention programs are emphasized.
