ABSTRACT

The overall goal of this chapter is to investigate the effects of the rights-based strategies of liberation on power structures at the personal, community, local, and national level. It seeks to analyse in what manner these oppressive factors were challenged during the application of the rights-based approach. It formulates general conclusions on the real impact of rights-based programmes for bonded labourers for Kamaiyas and Sahariyas and draws a map of the most significant transformations of power structures associated with implementation of these programmes. The chapter also discusses the limitations of human rights-based approaches to transform macro levels of power.
