ABSTRACT

The vision is the picture of the desired future state. A clear vision motivates and helps focus decisions during the natural stresses of a large, involved project. In a good visioning process, leaders take the time to truly think about where the organization is heading. To help create space for this, ask people to suspend disbelief for the time being, let go of reality and think about what might be possible as opposed to what is. Some leaders have difficulty doing this because it requires stepping out of their role. The Vision Alignment Model reflects a view of various initiatives within the context of the bigger picture. The large white arrow represents the direction of the organization and the several gray smaller arrows reflect the barrage of initiatives an organization is trying to manage. People need to understand the connection between their performance and achievement of the vision.
