ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses Since state-of-the-art dose coefficients. It addresses the computation of dose coefficients for the external irradiation of the human body. The chapter explores the computation of dose coefficients for internal emitters. It presents dose coefficient methods and results for external irradiation by environmental sources of radiation, namely by submersion in contaminated air, immersion in contaminated water, and irradiation by contaminated soil. The chapter demonstrates the use of the internal emitter dose coefficients and their application in computing dose. The generation of reference dose coefficients, or, in the case of dose reconstruction, the generation of individual-specific dose coefficients are addressed by computational dosimetry. The chapter also discusses some basic concepts in the computation of external dose coefficients but will by no means be an exhaustive treatment. It deals with neutrons and photon dose coefficients and, at that, is only a sampling of what could be reported and discussed concerning such coefficients.
