ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors utilize one immersive storytelling encounter–Traces–as a lens through which to explore the characteristics of immersive storytelling. They explore the textual experience of Traces, offering a detailed overview and analyses of how it works in practice: thematically, spatially, sensorially, temporally, and transmedially. The authors provide an insight into how it was created, presentsTraces as a creative process, working with clear ambitions, but limited by practical considerations. They examine research into the lived and felt experience of participation in Traces. Traces is designed–and promoted–with deep immersion in mind. It is intended that it will forge new connections between people, and between people and place. The authors describe the degree, to which clear ambitions have been met in Traces, yet in doing so, have made visible the complexities of immersive experience, rather than resolve or smooth them over.
