ABSTRACT

A healthy 10-year-old female comes to your clinic with a history of functional constipation and daily fecal soiling. She passed meconium on the first day of life. She had a normal bowel movement pattern for her first 3 years. She developed constipation and soiling at age 4. She had previously tried the oral osmotic laxative Polyethylene glycol 3350 and sodium phosphate rectal enemas but had continued fecal soiling. She has no other past medical history, no significant urinary history, surgical history, family history, or social history.
