ABSTRACT

The NEB’s financing of concerns such as Able, Charlie, Fred, Graham, Ivy and Olga show the state fostering high tech enterprises making goods such as computers, computer peripherals and biotechnology products. The demand for these goods and services is increasing, both domestically and abroad. State subsidies designed to keep alive well-established companies that are experiencing financial difficulties will take away from these concerns the incentive to reorganise or in other ways reduce expenses. A grant from the government may make a firm large enough to take advantage of economies of scale.
