ABSTRACT

For the new researcher as well as seasoned ones, this chapter shares some personal experiences with interrupted research across two central sites. Selected are several “research interrupted scenes” that provide insight into the predicaments faced in “being there.” From returning to the Lower Rio Grande Valley and experiencing identity conflict to carrying out research at one local institution of higher education and encountering being-at-the-site conflict to confronting emotional labor in the recruitment, interview, and writing process, these scenes provide insights into the complexities that comprise the messiness of research. They also illustrate the adaptability required of the researcher.
