ABSTRACT

We reflect on the state of affairs of transitions modelling in relation to the broader enterprise of transitions research, to other fields and the grand challenges of transitions. We conclude that a scientific approach is required, that mainstream transitions research is failing in that respect and that there is a role for modelling to become the scientific and methodological conscience of the field. Acknowledging that transitions modelling is currently not rising to that challenge, we take a very critical look and identify opportunities to expand our scope and raise our standards. Transitions are too important to leave to the storytellers.
