ABSTRACT
This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book offers a general introduction to the field of corpus linguistics, based on what studies in corpus linguistics typically involve and how it is defined in relation to other forms of language analysis. It introduces to some of the widely used and freely available corpus query interfaces, which support searches of commonly cited corpora. It also offers a demonstration to conduct corpus linguistics research in an online context. Developments in Web communication and corpus linguistics are swift and so it is intended as a guide to the implementation of the latest methods in corpus analysis as well as an examination of emergent forms of communication found in online spaces. There are some useful introductions to corpus linguistics that discusses the theoretical considerations; showcase a breadth of applications; and offer in-depth practical guidance.
