ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the models for the penetration mechanism of a puncher blade cutting objects such as knives, spikes, and needles into a fibrous material in a form of mat or multi layers of fibrous mat and fabric are discussed. For the stabbing by knives, the anatomy of knives was examined. The mechanism of the stab resistance with a sharp object is found to differ from that of the punching mode. The mathematical analyses of the models for fibers, fiber mat, and fabrics for the different scenarios are given. The determination of the yarn and fabric stabbing resistance by sharp blade was discussed. The mechanism of fabric dynamic stab resistance, applying the energy balance principles, are theoretically supported. The experimental trials for different fabric structures are evaluated.
