ABSTRACT
Comedian, writer and raconteur, Barry Cryer, at the age of 75 is perhaps one of the most enduring and popular comedy performers at work in the United Kingdom. Perhaps more widely known today for his weekly appearances on the BBC quiz programme I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue, Cryer has a career that stretches back to the mid-1950s when he was starting out and featuring on bills at the tail end of what was then the variety act period of British popular theatre. Since then, Cryer has built up a formidable curriculum vitae, both as a comedy performer and writer. Having written for such diverse acts as Tommy Cooper, George Burns, the Two Ronnies, Morecambe and Wise and Richard Pryor, his credits read like a ‘who’s who’ of comedy.
