ABSTRACT

This chapter describes eight beliefs and principles of relationship-centered leadership. The first four beliefs are: True communication takes place in the presence of relationship and trust, Inclusion precedes accountability, Innovation, resilience, inclusion and accountability are interdependent and People are able and willing to contribute to the success of the enterprise. The second four beliefs are people will speak up to stop an unsafe situation if it is in their interest to do so, Drift is a positive quality of adaptive human behavior, Our prejudgments and biases can prevent us from finding the truth in what we see and hear and Relationships influence emotions, feelings and beliefs, which influence decisions. The eight beliefs are interdependent in the sense that they all work together to build the relationships within the organization or team to encourage both collaboration and the willingness to risk bringing up interpersonal conflicts or ideas outside the norm.
