ABSTRACT

Nanyin, one of the most ancient music forms surviving in China, is reputed to be the “living fossil” in the music history of China. In Fujian Nanyin music, Nanyin Pipa plays the role of a conductor, which is irreplaceable. Hence, this paper starts with Nanyin Pipa, explores its various features, and compares it with similar Pipas to highlight its historical and cultural value. Moreover, in the combination of tangible cultural heritage and intangible cultural heritage from both micro and macro perspectives, it grasps the cultural essence of Fujian Nanyin music and demonstrates the value and significance in the protection and inheritance of Nanyin music.
