ABSTRACT

The constructions were carried out considering the existing environmental and climatic conditions, ensuring comfort inside buildings in a natural way. Conserving energy and environment has been a matter of concern in the past; hence, an urgent need was felt to enhance natural comfort in the residential architecture. The intensity of energy per unit floor area, along with an increased floor area, has put pressure and heightened the gravity of energy demands in the residential sector. Passive cooling aims at improving indoor thermal comfort by focusing on controlling and distribution of heat gain in a building and consuming low or nil energy. The vital parameter, especially in hot humid climates, to be considered is employing natural ventilation. The orientation of the building and rooms plays a vital role in gaining and utilizing the maximum natural energy from the environment. A building separates the inside spaces from outside environment for creating stable and comfortable thermal conditions for occupants.
