ABSTRACT

The major constraints in efficient utilization of non-edible oilseeds (NEOs) is the non-availability of proper, improved, efficient processing technology and equipment such as decorticator and efficient oil expeller. The NEOs are cultivated and harvested to produce oil, which can be used in several technical applications, such as fuel, lubricants, or raw material for the production of chemical products. Diesel is a very important fuel for the Indian economy because it is used in a wide range of applications such as trucks, road vehicles, railways, agriculture, and power generation. The oil content of the samples was determined by hexane extraction using a laboratory soxhlet apparatus and the value reported are average of the several experiments. There are several types of oil extraction units, namely, soxhlet extraction unit, screw press mechanical expeller, ghani, among others available for extracting oil from edible/non-edible oil seeds in different parts of the country.
