ABSTRACT

This chapter explores big boarding colleges for Malay youths comprised general supervision of the conduct and health of the students and all their outdoor activities, as well as more ordinary scholastic duties. A frank acceptance of the fact that the Malays are largely disgenic is essential for a proper understanding of the present condition and future possibilities of the race. In Kuala Lumpur and Singapore are specialists and laboratories for investigation and cure in connection with special problems of disease and health. The various statistics deal with the total population; but they afford fairly correct ratios for the Malays, who receive special consideration in all Government medical work as in other ways. More important than any statistics, however vital in themselves, is the imponderable change in mental outlook that is slowly but surely taking place in the Malay race as a whole.
