You have heard who Amaut de Mareuil was 1 and how he fell in love with the Countess of Béziers, who was the daughter of the good Count Raimon de Toulouse 2 , and mother of the Viscount of Béziers, whom the French killed after taking him at Carcassonne. 3 This same Viscountess was called the Countess of Burlatz because she was born in the castle of Burlatz. Amaut greatly loved her 4 and composed many good songs for her and beseeched her with great fear and she loved him very much.
