Sir Savaric de Malleo had come to Benauges to see the Viscountess, Lady Guillerma, for he was courting her. He brought with him Sir Elias Rudel, the lord of Bergerac, and Sir Jaufre Rudel of Blaya. 1 All three of them were asking for her love, and prior to this visit she had retained each of them as her knight, though none of them knew this about the others.
