ABSTRACT

The introductory chapter first discusses the problems in trying to connect aesthetic theory to current arts education in school. The relationship seems to be neither systematic nor targeted. The need thus arises to examine how arts education could constitute the practical (evidence-based) field to use aesthetics in education and even more, to establish the scope and significance of an “aesthetic teaching” of any subject taught. On this basis, the goal of the book is stated: an operationalization of aesthetic theories in the practice of developing arts integration strategies. Finally, the chapter briefly describes the following chapters.
