ABSTRACT

This chapter draws on the work of Margaret Mahler and Jessica Benjamin on psycho-symbiosis to nurture eco-mental health and prevent the development and manifestation of the symptoms of psychogeopathology in the first place. It also draws on the work of Lynn Margulis on bio-symbiosis and Michel Serres on parasitism and plaque tectonics. Psycho-symbiosis is mental health associated with what Aldo Leopold called ‘land health.’ It nurtures living with the earth in the symbiocene, the hoped-for age superseding the Anthropocene.
