ABSTRACT

This chapter seeks to explain both cooperation and competition among the leading Asian countries—China, India, and Russia—in their attempts to develop long-term strategic plans in the Middle East and Asia. We also examine the implication of Asia–Mideast economic and political dynamics. Although trade between the major Asian economies and the Middle East should include Japan and South Korea in terms of their primary exports to and imports from the region, we devote special attention to the cases of China, India, and Russia, hoping to reveal new trends and trajectories. Special attention will be given to China’s New Silk Road project, Russia’s growing involvement in the region, and India’s new trade ties within the region.
