ABSTRACT

Text analytics is the process of analyzing un-structured text, extracting relevant information, and transforming it into structured information that can then be leveraged in various ways using traditional data processing. Out of necessity to analyze un-structured data, a new discipline of data analytics called data virtualization is born. Gartner's IT Glossary defines text analytics as the process of deriving information from text sources for purposes that include summarization, classification, investigation, sentiment analysis, and explication. The Internet of Things is driving demand for applications that combine structured data such as operational details with un-structured data such as log files. Linguist is a player who deciphers un-structured textual data. This player writes linguistic rules and defines corporate taxonomies and lexicons. With Big Data getting ever bigger and infiltrating more and more parts of our business, the need for ways to understand the numbers’ meaning is becoming more acute.
