ABSTRACT

P. Schebesta remarks that the exchange of weapons is within the memory of both the Jehai and the Pleh, for the former use the blowpipe as well as the bow; the latter the bow in addition to the blowpipe. The blowpipe consists essentially of an inner and an outer tube, the function of the latter being protective. Among the Lanoh in the neighbourhood of Lenggong, Upper Perak, as well as the Menik Hangat of Grik, blowpipes are found which have an inner tube all in one piece and without any node in it. Blowpipes with the inner tube made from a single section of bamboo are occasionally to be seen, but these are procured from other tribes. The only attempts at ornamentation on the blowpipes externally were annular scratched-in markings below the muzzles and occasionally some slight patterns on the extra bamboo section near the mouthpiece.
