I, 1-7. The text opens with an attention-seeking device frequent in the chanson de geste. Qui has been taken here as a relative pronoun “if anyone,” but Suchier, Bourdillon, and Dufournet, who place a question-mark at the end of v. 7, interpret it as an interrogative addressed to the audience: “who wants to hear…?”
