ABSTRACT
The history of China’s participation in the Olympic Games shows not only the relationship between China and the Olympic Games but also the relationship between China and the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It witnesses China’s sport development from ‘weak man’ to a sport superpower. And China’s pursuit of Olympic gold medals and competitive results is not only for the pursuit of ‘sport power’ status but also because Olympic gold medals have far-reaching significance for China’s politics, economy and national self-esteem.
