ABSTRACT
Rudy Hartono Kurniawan (or Nio Hap Liang) was born in Surabaya on 18 August 1946. Rudy won his first All England Championship when he was 18 years old. He won the most All England titles and earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records in 1982. This chapter aims to explore his achievement and legacy to Indonesia. This is a qualitative study which was conducted by document analysis and interview methods. There are three topics discussed. The first is Rudy as an inspiring athlete, the second is Rudy as an Indonesian badminton hero, and the third is Rudy as a national figure. These three topics provide evidence that Rudy Hartono deserves to be honoured as an Indonesian sport hero.
