ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to highlight the life of Seri Pak, a professional golfer who has had a tremendous impact on her sport in Korea and around the world. For this purpose, previous studies and media resources related to Seri Pak were analysed to create an objective description of the professional golfer, developed through an intersubjective discussion. The following conclusions are based on the data analysis for this examination. First, Seri Pak showed a natural aptitude for sport, such as track and field, from early childhood, and her prodigious talent became clear after she began playing golf. In her amateur days, Seri Pak was greatly influenced by her father, Joon-cheol Pak, and showed dramatic growth as a golfer. Second, after winning a championship in the 1998 US Women’s Open with her ‘barefoot swing,’ she grew as a player and went on to represent women golfers globally by winning a series of championships in multiple major tournaments. She had the honour of being the youngest golfer in history to be inducted into the LPGA Tour Hall of Fame and the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2007. Third, thanks to the accomplishments of Seri Pak, a generation of female golfers named ‘Seri Pak kids’ are rising in Korea.
