ABSTRACT

Coronary Heart Diseases (CHD) is one of the main causes of mortality and morbidity in the world. Cardiovascular diseases are on account of unhealthy dietary habit, tobacco use, less consumption of fruit and vegetable, a stressful life and a sedentary lifestyle. A slight elevation in the serum cholesterol above the normal level has increased the risk of coronary death. Numerous statin therapies for cholesterol lowering are available to a wide population commercially. However, these statins have claimed to cause severe side effects among people, so people have started to look for safe therapy with zero side effects. In vitro and in vivo studies on bile salt hydrolase active lactic acid bacteria that claim cholesterol lowering are studied and proven to be successful as a safe therapeutic. Thus the development of novel strains has added an advantage to the treatment of heart diseases.
