ABSTRACT
The conduct of safe anesthesia relies upon adequate monitoring of the patient. This is crucial as the patient is unable to communicate when under general anesthesia. Vital parameters such as pulse rate and blood pressure are affected by the patient’s condition, the surgery being performed and anesthesia agents. The minimum standard for monitoring during anesthesia care has been defined by the American Society of Anesthesiologists initially in 1986 then amended in 1998.
