ABSTRACT
Air traffic is predicted to grow by 5% per year and fuel demand by about 3% on a yearly basis. More than two billion people travelled by air in 2006. The current revenue passenger kilometre (RPK) is predicted using historical RPK, which is based on past data. Airbus and Boeing forecast that the air traffic will be increased from 5 trillion RPK in 2011 to 10 trillion RPK in 2025 as shown in Figure 4.1. The amount of goods transported by air mode increased significantly from 6.1 million tonnes per year to 37.7 million tonnes per year. Every tonne is transported on an average of 3780 km [1].
