ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the airline industry has been used to explain the concepts of mobility in the transportation sector. Baggage tags for cargo transportation and personal assistance for passenger transportation have been used as use cases. Most of the airlines have their own dedicated airport terminals, airline-specific bag tags with barcodes printed on them, which are then assigned to the passenger bags. Airports and airlines work hard to offer their passengers a fast and efficient travel experience. A mobile solution needs to be designed and developed to extend passenger assistance information to the personal digital assistant for better service and enhanced customer satisfaction. Many airlines are providing its customers options to use mobiles for checking flight status, flight schedules, seat availability, seat selection, mobile check-in, boarding pass, mobile payment, baggage tracking, and making itinerary changes. In majority of the airlines, customers interact with the airport or airline employees primarily at the counters in the front and behind security gates.
