ABSTRACT

In previous chapters, we learnt how resource conservation is carried out for continuous processes. This chapter focuses on resource conservation networks (RCNs) for batch processes or in short batch material networks (BMNs). For a BMN, apart from quality constraint, time dimension is another constraint that needs to be considered in synthesizing a BMN. Hence, a mass storage system is commonly employed to recover material across time intervals. Various targeting and design techniques for continuous processes in the previous chapters are extended here for a BMN.
