ABSTRACT

Hematoma: Hematoma after epidural or spinal analgesia is extremely rare (1/168,000), and if suspected the patient should undergo prompt definitive imaging (MRI) of her neuraxis, followed by surgical decompression after diagnosis. Surgical decompression within approximately 6 hours following the onset of symptoms often prevents permanent neurologic injury. The risk of persistent neurologic injury from epidural is about 1/240,000 (14).
