Misoprostol: Route, Dose, and Safety l There is published literature on a wide range of thera-
peutic regimens (1,12,19). l Optimal dose and route of administration of misoprostol
have not been determined by randomized trials. l Misoprostol 800 mg per vagina is the most studied regi-
men for medical management of EPF. l Success of medical management of EPF increases with
multiple-dose regimens (7). l WHO recommends a single oral dose of 600 mg misopros-
tol for medical management of incomplete abortion (11). l WHO recommends a single vaginal dose of 800 mg miso-
prostol for medical management of anembryonic pregnancy and embryonic/fetal demise (20). Misoprostol 600 mg sublingual is an alternative regimen (20).
