chapter  9
Puzzles from Analyzing Real Datasets
Pages 10

The present chapter gives four puzzles or oddities that arose in analyzing real datasets using models with random effects, and the following chapters use these puzzles to explore some aspects of collinearity in richly parameterized linear models. Some of these puzzles arose for models that do not have normally distributed errors but they are nonetheless relevant to the normal-normal models on which the present book is focused.
