ABSTRACT

Metabolomics represents one of the more recent additions to the plant functional genomics toolbox-it combines the measurement, identifi cation and statistical interrogation of the small, soluble molecules (metabolites) that act as intermediates and end products of metabolic pathways in living tissue. The primary outcome of metabolomics analyses are metabolite “fi ngerprints” that can, for example, act as surrogate indicators of the metabolic state in vivo during development or response to external stimuli.
