ABSTRACT
Development of ECDIS The paper chart has been a fundamental tool for the navigation of ships for centuries. However, with the advent of satellite position fixing and powerful cheap computers, a potent additional tool is now available to the mariner. Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) are designed to replace paper chart based navigation in many vessels, providing increased benefits for safety and efficiency.
