ABSTRACT

The main idea of this Chapter is that we abolish the distinction between L and R (and so between + and - ) , and explore the consequences of our genetic definitions of arithmetic operations in this more symmetrical context. What we get is in a sense the characteristic 2 analogue of the big Field No, which we might naturally call Nor But it turns out that this new Field is also the “simplest” way of turning the Class On of all ordinal numbers into a Field, and so for a moment we shall explore it from this viewpoint and adopt the name On2 (which has in any case a nicer sound).
