ABSTRACT

Benoit Mandelbrot is the great champion of fractals, and currently holds the position of IBM Fellow at IBM’s Thomas J. Watson Research Center. The span of his interests is best illustrated by listing some of the positions he has held: Visiting Professor of Economics, Applied Mathematics, and Mathematics at Harvard, of Engineering at Yale, of Physiology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and of Mathematics at the University of Paris-Sud. Fractal geometry has been the unifying theme in all of his work.
